Health Information Management Description 2MR02:

Position is part time, 24 hours, day shifts.
Hourly rate, non-exempt, union.
Completes the processing and scanning of health information into the permanent electronic medical record.
Release of health-related information to appropriate parties.
JOB FUNCTIONS 1.
Retrieve records from patient care departments.
2.
Scan loose reports/records into appropriate patient account.
3.
Answers phone in a prompt manner.
4.
Follow policies to release information and process requests in a timely manner.
5.
Greets visitors to the department and provide direction as necessary.
6.
Prepare statistic reports.
7.
Prepare and submit hospital date to Maine Health Data Organization (MHDO).
8.
Assist coders with backlog and obtaining additional information from providers 9.
Assists Department Director with Special projects related to electronic medical records.
10.
Other duties as assigned.

Quality Improvement:
Actively participates in the Hospital-wide Quality Improvement Program, actively supports and implements Department-specific Quality improvement initiatives and projects, recommends process improvement as appropriate, reports any quality issues in service delivery and consistently commits to a focus on quality improvement and organizational excellence.
12.
Emergency Management:
As an employee of Penobscot Valley Hospital, the position has an inherent role to care for our community members when in need.
To this regard, the incumbent will be expected to participate in emergency/disaster preparedness planning and drills as requested.
When called upon during a real life disaster/emergency event, the incumbent will be expected to participate in the Hospital's response to this event, within the scope of professional and personal ability to do so.
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and drug terminology.
Good grammar skills.
Excellent typing skills including speed and accuracy.
Willingness to learn ICD-10 coding.
